Editorial Fellowship, Culture Team

Independent Journal Review (IJR) is one of the largest news publishers in the world. IJR is a news site dedicated to providing objective, fair, and deeply creative, shareable news. We are a Top 50 website in the US, averaging more than 30 million unique visitors a month.

The Culture Team is looking for a writing fellow to assist and learn how to write for an audience that cares about pop culture, celebrities, what's viral and trending, and what makes the reader do a double-take. Instead of your traditional gossip rag, we take a closer look and uncover how, in some cases, they're not that different from you and I.

Traditionally, pop culture has been presented in a way that just skims the surface. We want to change that. By connecting deeply with our audience and building trust, we strive to provide our readers with stories they can relate to.

This fellowship will be based out of our Washington, D.C.-area office located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. Blow us away, and this could lead to a full-time position!

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of newsroom experience, preferably on a social publishing model
  • Visual storytelling experience
  • Basic understanding of pop culture and how to write about it in a substantial way
  • Ability to write and think creatively
  • Organized and concept-to-execution driven work mentality
  • Fast learner, critical thinker

If this describes you, let us know! We want you to be an integral a part of the premiere social publishing team for the next generation of news consumers.
