Dearly.com is currently looking for a full-time Deputy Editor to help who will help manage our growing team Tuesday-Saturday.
Dearly is part of one the largest social publishers in the world, Media Group of America. We are looking for someone in the DC area who is more into watching TLC than talking politics 99% of the time. Our team members are creative storytellers who produce rich, highly shareable content focussed around stories with a strong family dynamic. This ranges from anything from celebrity news, local news stories, viral content, as well as original reporting from our writers. Regardless of the subject, our writers always look for the deeper meaning in a story.
We are at an exciting point, as we are growing the brand and redefining what kind of content we do.
Our ideal candidate is an experienced editor who enjoys close collaboration with writers. As a social first company, he/she will also need to have an interest in learning or already have experience in managing social media pages. The Deputy Editor will report directly to the Senior Editor and assist wherever needed in the editorial process of our team. This means helping with story assignments, posting to social media, and lending a hand at writing stories when necessary. He/she will also be an excellent copy editor and feel confident helping writers shape their work.
The ability to focus under pressure and multitask is essential.
If you’re energized by hard work, aren't afraid to take initiative, and want to be part of something meaningful, this is the place to be.
What we want:
You have a native sense of what stories have viral potential. We do not need to be doing the same thing as everyone else. We do not need regurgitation of other websites' articles. We need creative people with a love of storytelling mixed with the ability to identify what people want to know about and what they don't. We need people who can identify what makes a story special and unique in order to give the context and perspective our audience needs to understand its importance.
You know the landscape of the Internet. You know when your Facebook Feed is click-baiting you. You know what a subreddit is. Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Vines and Snapchat all make sense to you and are a part of your everyday life.
You know your audience. Our stories are built for sharing. We rely heavily on knowing what our readers want before they do. Our readers are busy people. They want to read about what matters to them in a social first, easy-to-digest way so they can understand the world around them.
We want to invest in a culture. Creativity is best nurtured in a relaxed, collaborative environment where everyone is willing to speak up, share ideas, and adapt. Feel free to work in your PJs. Just show up, contribute and be a team player.
...and much more!
